This video features a Bell System electromechanical crossbar switch and demonstrates in detail all of its parts and how it operates. It also describes its applications in a No. 5 Crossbar telephone switching system. A variety of crossbar local and toll switching systems were utilized in the Bell System form 1938 to the end of the 1990's.
